Surge in Applications to University of Montenegro: Is This the Start of a New Academic Revolution?

The University of Montenegro (UCG) in Podgorica is experiencing a massive surge in applications for undergraduate studies this year! A whopping 2,000 candidates have applied, about 500 more than last year, with many programs already filled in the first enrollment period. Vice-Rector Veselin Mićanović proudly states that this increase is proof of the quality and diversity of study programs offered by UCG.

The Medical Faculty is the absolute star, with nearly double the number of applications compared to available spots — 89 applicants for 40 places in medicine, and 32 applicants for 20 places in dentistry. Pharmacy, applied physiotherapy, and the Higher Medical School also report almost twice as many applications as available spots. The Faculty of Architecture remains traditionally popular with 89 applications for 50 places, and the Faculty of Law continues to be one of the most sought-after.

The Faculties of Political Sciences, Economics, Philosophy, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Arts all show high levels of interest, with many programs already full or oversubscribed. The second enrollment period will be an opportunity for those who did not apply or did not achieve enough points in the first round.

This significant rise in applications confirms that UCG remains a pillar of higher education and trust for the younger generations in Montenegro. Is this the start of a new academic revolution in the region? Or just a passing trend? Either way, it seems young people are finally recognizing the value of education and the quality offered.

If you’re thinking about enrolling, maybe it’s time to get serious about your application! And if you’re already a student, what do you think about this wave of enthusiasm? Is education finally in vogue, or is this just another statistic? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s in and who’s out!
