Have you heard the incredible sports story from northern Montenegro? At the 60th anniversary of the Inter-Youth Sports Games in Višegrad, the team from Mojkovac, led by the Tara Athletic Club, made a sensational splash! They won a total of six medals, including two golds, and Vesna Kljajević threw the shot put an astonishing 14.74 meters, setting a record in the 60-year history of the Mosi competition! Yes, you read that right — a record that stood for decades has just been shattered!
These games are a true sporting institution in northern Montenegro, with a tradition spanning decades and contributing to the development of top-notch sports infrastructure in many towns. Višegrad hosted the event this year, and Tara proved to be a true sports giant.
Besides Vesna, other competitors shone brightly. Pioneer Olja Simićević won senior gold in discus throw with a personal best of 39.90 meters. Younger junior Radovan Sošić cleared two meters in the high jump to claim silver, while younger junior Anđelina Lašić took silver in javelin throw. Pioneer Matija Damjanović earned bronze in discus with a throw of 36.97 meters.
What’s especially encouraging is that Vesna Kljajević used this competition as a control event ahead of the European Championships for under-23 athletes, taking place in Bergen, Norway, in two weeks. She is the only Montenegrin athlete to have met the qualifying standard for this event, further cementing her status as a top athlete.
Coach Marko Danilo Ristić is proud of his athletes and emphasizes that this is just the beginning of great successes to come. Mojkovac proudly brought home six medals from this prestigious competition, and everyone in the club believes this will be a boost for even better results in the future.
