Imagine this: Telekom Serbia, a state-owned company, has done what no other telecom operator in Europe has managed – it doubled its annual revenue in just seven years! Yes, you read that right. CEO Vladimir Lučić proudly announced that the company expects to reach a revenue of 1.5 billion euros this year. While other European telecoms are stuck in place, Telekom Serbia is making a revolution.
How did they do it? They didn’t sit idle. They invested huge sums into building optical networks, mobile infrastructure, and content, including the Arena. This strategy paid off – now Telekom Serbia’s revenue surpasses that of all mobile and fixed operators combined in Serbia. They even managed to push out their main competitor and maintain a dominant market position. Interestingly, even competitors like Yettel and A1 use Telekom’s optical infrastructure, meaning Telekom earns from them too.
This is a rare success story in today’s Europe. While many struggle with declining revenues and losing customers, Telekom Serbia shows how to grow and expand. But is it all sunshine and rainbows? Is this just a story of a state company using its position to crush competition? Or is it an example of smart investments and good strategy delivering results? Either way, it’s hard to stay indifferent.
If you have thoughts on this success or doubts about its sustainability, feel free to drop a comment. Is Telekom Serbia the new European champion or just a lucky exception? Let’s joke around and discuss – maybe it’s time other telecoms learned a thing or two from them!
