Belgrade’s streets turned into a nightmare last night! At 9:23 PM, at the corner of Mokroluška and Vojislava Ilića streets near a gas station, a motorcyclist lost his life. To make matters worse, four more people were injured and rushed to the Emergency Center. But the night’s horror didn’t stop there! At 10:41 PM, on the New Obrenovac road, a 22-year-old young man suffered minor injuries, while at the corner of Vojvođanska and Dr. Ivana Ribara streets in New Belgrade, a 27-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were lightly injured and taken to the Zemun Clinical Center after first aid.
The ambulance service was swamped all night – 24 regular teams and 5 extra squads were deployed due to a public gathering. Besides traffic accidents, there were many interventions for minor injuries and intoxicated individuals, who ended up in the toxicology department of VMA. As every night, chronic patients – hypertensives, asthmatics, psychiatric and cardiology patients – needed the most help.
This terrifying night in Belgrade casts a dark shadow over road safety and shows just how dangerous our streets are. Will anyone finally take responsibility and do something to reduce these tragedies? Or will we keep watching lives lost on the streets while emergency teams fight the aftermath?
