Tompson Sold Half a Million Tickets at Ridiculous Prices, and the Scandals Keep Coming!
Have you heard about the unbelievable record set by Marko Perković Tompson? For his concert on July 5th at Zagreb’s Hippodrome, half a million tickets were sold in record time! But wait, that’s not all – the tickets were almost free! The parterre section, right in front of the stage, which can hold several thousand people, had tickets priced at just about 96 dinars each. Yes, you read that right – less than one euro!
How is it possible that tickets were so cheap?
The official ticket sales website clearly states the price for two parterre tickets is about 192 dinars, meaning one ticket cost only 96 dinars. Fan pit tribune tickets weren’t expensive either, priced between two to three thousand dinars for two tickets. These jaw-dropping prices likely explain why the tickets sold out in a flash.
But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows…
Scandals are swirling around this spectacle. First, the musicians who had accompanied Tompson for years left him because he refused to pay them properly. Then, various associations and individuals in Croatia spoke out, accusing Tompson of promoting national and racial intolerance. Katarina Peović from the Workers’ Front publicly stated that some events glorify intolerance and should be banned – and Tompson’s concert is exactly one of those.
A civic petition to cancel the concert
In June, a civic petition was launched demanding the concert be canceled due to security, health, and logistical concerns. All this casts a shadow over a musical event that, on one hand, became a hit because of its prices and ticket sales, but on the other hand, sparks controversy and division in society.
Why does this matter?
This case shows how popularity and controversy can merge into one event that grabs attention across the region and beyond. Is it really possible to organize a concert with such low ticket prices without issues? Who’s covering the difference? And what’s really behind the whole story?
If you’ve got thoughts on this phenomenon, or maybe a joke about “free” tickets, feel free to share – topics like this always light up the comment sections!
