At the 25th anniversary Drina Regatta in Ljubovija, a tragedy struck that shook all participants and spectators. Thirty-three-year-old Radiša Mijailović from the Rogota hamlet near Ljubovija drowned in the Drina River, on the border of the Ljubovija and Bajina Bašta municipalities. According to initial information, the young man most likely fell from a boat located at the rear of the regatta. Help did not arrive in time, and when the emergency services came, they could only confirm death. His body was pulled from the river, and the investigation is being conducted by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Užice, as the accident occurred in the territory of the Bajina Bašta municipality.
This is the first fatal tragedy in the history of the Drina Regatta, which for a quarter of a century has gathered thousands of participants and until now had no similar incidents. The joy and celebration on the Drina this time were interrupted by sorrow and grief. Regatta lovers and all present were left in shock by this unfortunate event.
