Tragedy on D1 near Knin: Driver with Serbian plates killed in collision with fire truck!
Last night, a horrific accident occurred on the state road D1 near Biskupija, close to Knin, ending in tragedy. A 38-year-old driver of a car with Serbian license plates lost his life in a collision with a fire truck from the local fire department DVD Biskupija. According to the police report, the driver failed to adjust his speed to the road conditions — poor visibility, vehicle condition, and weather all played a role.
How did the accident happen?
The driver crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the fire truck coming from the opposite direction. The fire truck driver (55 years old) sustained minor injuries and was treated at the Knin hospital, while the 38-year-old driver died at the scene. Due to the investigation, traffic was closed for one hour, and vehicles were redirected to alternative routes.
Is this just another accident on the dangerous D1?
Unfortunately, such tragedies are not uncommon on the D1 road, known for its dangerous curves and challenging driving conditions. Drivers often fail to reduce speed, and the vehicle’s technical condition and weather worsen the situation. The police announced they will submit a report to the Šibenik State Prosecutor’s Office, but the question remains how much this will help prevent such tragedies in the future.
Firefighters on the front line — even in accidents!
The fire truck involved was on duty, highlighting how firefighters face risks not only when fighting fires but also on the road. Who will ensure their safety when they rush to save lives?
Conclusion: Danger lurks at every turn!
This tragedy is another wake-up call for all drivers to obey traffic laws, adjust speed, and drive carefully, especially on dangerous stretches like D1. We must not forget that behind every license plate is a human life — regardless of nationality.
