What a horror! Dragoslav Spasić, the owner of the oldest tavern in Serbia, has died after being brutally run over by a drunk driver without a license right in front of his establishment in Raševica. Yes, you read that right – the man who preserved tradition and authenticity of the tavern, built by his grandfather Miloš decades ago, ended his life in the most tragic way. The driver of an Opel car, with a staggering 1.1‰ blood alcohol level, no driver’s license, and an unregistered vehicle, lost control and hit Dragoslav, who got trapped under the car while the driver and passenger fled the scene on foot!
For a full eighteen days, Dragoslav fought for his life at the University Clinical Center in Belgrade, but his injuries were too severe. The residents of Raševica are in shock and mourning, as this man was a pillar of the community, a guardian of tradition and the tavern’s unique atmosphere that lasted for decades. Although last year he said his health was good and he would keep running the tavern, fate had other plans – he met his death right outside his own tavern.
The police acted quickly, and the driver later reported himself, but that doesn’t erase the fact that he caused chaos and destroyed a life. How is it possible that someone with such a high blood alcohol level, no license, and an unregistered car can even be behind the wheel? Where is the justice for Dragoslav? Where is the responsibility? This is not just a tragedy for one family, it’s a failure of our society that doesn’t protect its oldest and most valuable members.
If you’ve ever enjoyed sitting in a tavern soaking up the authentic vibe, remember Dragoslav Spasić and his fight to preserve tradition. His death is not just a number in statistics – it’s a warning to all of us. So, what do you think about this tragedy? Isn’t it time to seriously change our laws and traffic control? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, or just say – this is truly awful!
