Tragedy of a Boy from Vranje: Leg Amputated After Scooter Accident

A horrific accident near Vranje has shocked all of Serbia. A boy was hit by a truck while riding a scooter and had to have his leg amputated due to severe injuries. Yes, you read that right — his leg! Dr. Živojin Spasić, head of pediatric surgery at the Niš Clinical Center, revealed that the injuries were so severe they are rare and extremely life-threatening. The boy successfully came out of an induced coma, but the consequences are catastrophic.

Why do parents still buy two-wheelers for their kids? Dr. Spasić urges all parents not to buy scooters for children because such accidents are becoming more frequent and often end tragically. In his 35-year career, he has seen only a few such cases, but each was extremely severe — open fractures, injuries to vital organs like the liver and spleen.

This accident is not just a tragedy for one family but a wake-up call for society. Scooters, which have become a favorite mode of transport for young people, can be deadly. Is it worth risking children’s health and lives for a passing trend? As the number of such accidents rises, it’s time to seriously consider safety and responsibility.
