Ena Begović: The Most Beautiful Actress Whose Death Shook the Region
Ena Begović, one of the most beautiful and talented actresses of the former Yugoslavia, would have turned 65 today. Her career started at just 18 years old, and her charisma and charm left an indelible mark on the silver screen. However, her life was tragically cut short on August 15, 2000, in a car accident that shocked the region.
Fear of Driving and Tragic Events
Little is known that Ena had a deep fear of driving cars and buses throughout her life, almost as if she foresaw a tragic outcome. After an accident in 1996, in which a motorcyclist died and her friend was seriously injured, her fear only deepened. In that accident, Ena was found guilty and sentenced to three years of probation, which further affected her psychological shock that she never fully recovered from.
The Fatal August 15, 2000
On the day of the accident, in a Grand Cherokee car, besides Ena, were her husband Josip Radeljak, her mother Tereza, little daughter Lana, and Josip’s 18-year-old son Leo Radeljak. Initial reports claimed Josip was driving, but later it was established that Leo was behind the wheel. The car started sliding down a steep hill, Ena fell out and suffered fatal head and spine injuries. Although Leo was acquitted due to a technical fault in the vehicle, the family sued Daimler Chrysler for the defect, and the trial was moved to Croatia.
Consequences for the Family
Little Lana suffered severe head injuries but survived after prolonged treatment at the University Clinical Center in Zagreb. She is now 24 years old and, according to some reports, resembles her mother, being introverted and withdrawn like Ena once was.
