The 13th July Award and Montenegro’s Societal Collapse: Scandal, Protests, and Police Brutality

The 13th July Award in Montenegro: A Scandal That Shook Society!

Last night’s ceremony for the 13th July Award at Vila Gorica in Podgorica was anything but peaceful. The award was given to two laureates who deny the Montenegrin nation, state, and cultural-historical identity! Yes, you read that right – an award meant to celebrate Montenegrin identity was handed to those who reject it. How is this even possible? It seems the award rules were blatantly broken, and the judiciary stayed silent.

Protests and Police Brutality

Citizens gathered outside Vila Gorica in protest, outraged by this scandal. Instead of listening to the people’s voice, the police responded with excessive force! Eggs flew, patriotic songs echoed, and the message was clear: the fight against fascism will not stop! But is this really a fight or just another sign of institutional collapse in Montenegro?

Who Was Missing?

The ceremony lacked the presence of the President, Prime Minister, Ministers of Culture or Education. Even the Vice Presidents of the Parliament, who attended last year, were absent. Instead, the event was attended by opposition MPs, officials, Serbian Orthodox Church priests, and members of the Montenegrin Army. Quite the strange mix, isn’t it?

A Laureate Who Refused the Award

To add to the absurdity, one laureate, Miloš Karadaglić, refused to accept the award! Is this a sign that even he doesn’t want to be part of this farce?

The Lowest Institutional Decline in Recent History

Matica Crnogorska clearly stated this is the lowest institutional decline in Montenegrin society in recent history. And it’s hard to disagree. When institutions fail and awards are given against the rules, society sinks into chaos.

What’s Next?

The question remains – who will put an end to this madness? Will the institutions wake up, or will we watch Montenegro sink deeper? Police brutality against protesters and the judiciary’s silence send a message that justice is on pause.

If you have thoughts on this scandal or maybe a good joke about awards nobody wants, feel free to share in the comments. Let the people’s voice be heard, because clearly, the institutions are silent!

The Dark Side of the 13th July Award

  • Awarded to two deniers of Montenegrin nation
  • Protests outside Vila Gorica with police brutality
  • No reaction from the judiciary
  • Miloš Karadaglić refused the award
  • Absence of top state officials

Montenegro, it’s time to wake up! Or will we keep watching institutions crumble before our eyes?
