Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky held a long and substantive meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague, discussing ceasefire and real peace in Ukraine. Trump, of course, took the opportunity to boast about American military strength and announced an increase in defense spending to 5% of GDP, while criticizing Spain for refusing to raise its contribution. Putin’s territorial ambitions beyond Ukraine? Trump says it’s possible, but he would rather resolve the chaos soon. Zelensky appealed for additional air defense and joint weapons production. NATO allies committed to seriously strengthening defense capabilities, but will this really end the conflict or just another political circus?
