Ukraine Strips Metropolitan Onufriy of Citizenship Over Moscow Ties

Have you heard about the latest scandal rocking Ukraine? Metropolitan Onufriy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, whose real name is Orest Berezovski, has just been stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship! Yes, you read that right. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) revealed that Onufriy, who has also been a Russian citizen since 1999, hid this fact from Ukrainian authorities. But wait, there’s more — he’s accused of maintaining ties with the Moscow Patriarchate and supporting Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

While Ukraine is losing lives and territory in a brutal war, the metropolitan, who should be a spiritual leader, seems to be rooting for the enemy! The SBU claims Onufriy continues to back the policies of the Russian Orthodox Church and its head, Patriarch Kirill, known for his support of the Russian invasion.

To make matters worse, Ukraine has its own autocephalous Orthodox Church, recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and other churches, yet Onufriy still holds ties with Moscow. This citizenship revocation sends a clear message — Ukraine will not tolerate betrayal, not even from its church leaders.

Imagine this — while the country fights for freedom, one of its highest church officials plays a double game! Is this betrayal or just a terrible misjudgment? What’s your take on this drama? Share your thoughts, maybe we need a church detective to unravel all these tangled ties!
