Ukrainian Engineers Develop Deadly Glide Bombs That Could Change the War

Imagine this: Ukrainian engineers have developed their own glide bomb system, already in testing phase, capable of hitting targets up to 60 kilometers away! Yes, you read that right – 60 kilometers of deadly range, with plans to increase it to 80 and beyond. The project is led by the Ukrainian bureau Medoid, which deliberately copied the external design of the Russian UMPK system to save development time, but the internal components are entirely domestic and more precise.

For those who don’t know, glide bombs are like deadly missiles with folding wings and satellite guidance, dropped from aircraft outside the range of enemy air defenses. Russia has been using them massively in Ukraine, destroying cities like Avdiivka, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia, launching hundreds of bombs daily. Ukraine now has its answer – domestic bombs that are cheaper and, according to initial tests, more effective than Western alternatives like JDAM, AASM Hammer, or GBU-39 SDB.

But it’s not all sunshine – funding is the biggest hurdle for mass production. One bomb costs about 1.2 million Ukrainian hryvnias, roughly 21,000 euros, and Ukraine needs hundreds daily. Although some parts still come from abroad, the development team is pushing forward, working on increasing range and resistance to electronic warfare.

This technological leap could change the rules of the game on the battlefield, as glide bombs allow attacks from safety, reducing risk to pilots and aircraft. Ukraine, fighting for survival, now has weapons that can match Russia’s massive bombardments.

If you think this is just another weapons story, think again. This is a race for the future of warfare, where precision, range, and resistance to jamming can decide who survives. And the Ukrainians just proved they are not just victims but innovators ready to fight to the end.

What do you think – will these bombs change the course of the war or are they just a drop in the ocean? Drop a comment, let’s see who’s for and who’s against!
