UN Urges Serbia: Protect Peaceful Protesters or Brace for Chaos!

UN Special Rapporteur Gina Romero has fired a sharp warning to the Serbian government: “Protect peaceful protesters, especially students!” Why? Because a wave of protests has erupted across the country in response to police violence that has shocked the nation. Yes, you read that right — the police, who are supposed to protect citizens, have become the main reason people are taking to the streets and blocking roads.

In recent days, protests have flared up like a blazing fire of anger, and Gina Romero is openly worried about the lives and safety of those brave enough to raise their voices. “I will be watching the actions of law enforcement like a hawk!” she declared, making it clear that the international community is not turning a blind eye.

But it’s not just the UN sounding the alarm. The OSCE mission, ODIHR, the Council of Europe, and other human rights organizations have also condemned police behavior and called for the protection of the right to peaceful assembly.

Meanwhile, citizens in Pakovraće tried to block the highway in protest, but police quickly stepped in to prevent a full traffic shutdown. Although the atmosphere was tense at first, the protest soon took on a more relaxed vibe with music and dancing, but the message remained clear: “We will not allow violence against us!”

This situation is a clear sign that Serbia is on the edge of social unrest, and the authorities must decide — will they protect citizens’ rights or continue to suppress them? Because if they keep going like this, don’t be surprised if protests escalate into something much bigger and unpredictable.

So, what do you think? Has the police gone too far, or are the protesters just too rebellious? Drop a comment, maybe together we’ll figure out who’s really lost it here!
