Unconstituted City Council in Vrgorac

At the first constitutive session of the Vrgorac City Council, neither of the two proposed candidates for president received the required majority of votes, and the council was not constituted. The HDZ candidate Rudolf Grljušić and the Independent Youth List candidate Ljubomir Erceg each received 6 out of 13 votes, while a majority of 7 votes is required. HDZ has 6 councilors, NLM 5, SDP and DPA one each. A new session will be held within 30 days, and if the council is not constituted after a second attempt within 90 days, extraordinary local elections will be held.

Political Perspectives:

Left: Left-leaning outlets emphasize the political deadlock and the challenges of coalition-building in local governance, highlighting the lack of majority and the potential for new elections as a reflection of democratic processes and citizen engagement.

Center: Center-leaning sources report the facts of the failed council constitution neutrally, focusing on the procedural aspects, the vote counts, and the scheduled next steps without much political commentary.

Right: Right-leaning media tend to highlight the role of HDZ and its candidate, emphasizing the party’s efforts to secure leadership despite opposition, and may frame the deadlock as a temporary setback with confidence in eventual HDZ success.
