Universal Basic Income: Salvation or Global Stagnation?

Universal Basic Income: Salvation or Total Global Stagnation?

Imagine a world where everyone gets the same paycheck, no matter their job, effort, or talent. Sounds like paradise, right? Well, not quite! The idea of universal basic income (UBI) has been debated for decades and is back in the spotlight due to artificial intelligence and fears of job loss. But is it salvation or a recipe for total economic disaster?

What is Universal Basic Income?

UBI means every person receives a fixed amount of money regardless of whether they work or not. The goal? To eliminate extreme poverty and help people survive in a world where robots and AI take over jobs.

Why is this a problem?

Journalist Dragan Vujičić calls it twisted socialism. We already live in a tyranny of mediocrity where people can’t get far. If everyone gets the same pay, who will bother to create innovations? Who will build cars, phones, satellites? Economist Nemanja Antić warns that when people don’t have to work, they probably won’t. Innovations come from struggle, overtime, and serious effort. Without that, the world would stop.

Wars, crises, and oil prices

Economist Bojan Dimitrijević points out that wars and conflicts, like the one between Israel and Iran, affect the global economy and oil prices. Although oil prices jumped 10%, a major economic crisis didn’t happen because a war between Iran and the US would be a suicide move for Iran, which depends on oil.

Is there really enough money?

Antić explains that there is more money than people, but the problem is distribution. People tend to abuse resources and the environment, leading to poverty and injustice. UBI doesn’t solve this problem; it only masks it.

Conclusion: Paradise or Hell?

UBI sounds like a fairy tale but in practice can cause stagnation and kill motivation for work and innovation. The world is already financially unstable, and such a measure could only make things worse.

Think UBI is salvation or disaster? Drop a comment below and tell us what you think! Maybe you’re the next innovator who will change the world — or just someone who likes to sit back and get paid without working. Who knows?
