Serbian Government Responds: €3 Million Aid
The Serbian government did not stand idly by. It immediately allocated €3 million in aid for the most affected, formed a commission to assess the damage, and government members went to the field to provide support.
Firefighters and Citizens – Heroes of the Day
Firefighters worked around the clock with impeccable organization and coordination. Citizens also showed incredible solidarity – people from neighboring villages came to help extinguish the fires. Helicopters provided invaluable assistance, and new equipment and helicopters acquired in recent years proved crucial in fighting the fiery disaster.
Drought and Storms: A Recipe for Disaster
A long period of drought created perfect conditions for fires, and stormy weather with strong winds and hail caused additional damage. This year, 20 emergency events were recorded, 15 of which were fires and explosions, representing a 17.57% increase compared to the same period last year.
What Lies Ahead?
The fight against the fires continues, with 10 active fires currently burning. The Toplica district is the most affected, suffering the greatest material damage. A state of emergency has been declared in several cities and municipalities, and firefighters continue tirelessly to extinguish fires and protect the population.
