The Serbian Journalists’ Association (UNS) has stepped up to provide 60 “press vests” for journalists covering the upcoming student protests and blockades on June 28. Journalists can pick up these vests at the UNS offices on Resavska 28, provided they have valid journalist or editorial credentials. Each journalist is allowed to take only one vest. Members of UNS can also pay their membership fees and renew their press IDs on site. UNS has arranged legal support, including lawyers and representatives from the permanent working group on journalist safety. Citizens, stewards, and police are urged to ensure the safety of journalists and allow them to work without interference. This move comes at a time when journalists face increasing pressure and obstacles in their work, and UNS is trying to provide all necessary protection and support. Meanwhile, the region is witnessing other troubling incidents related to media freedom and journalists’ rights, such as the case of Montenegrin director Danilo Marunović, who was detained and deported from Serbia shortly before a scheduled theater performance. This sparked condemnation and demands for explanations from Montenegrin authorities. These events highlight the serious challenges faced by media workers and cultural creators in the region, underscoring the need for greater protection and respect for their rights.
