Unusual Light Phenomenon Over Zagreb: Boötids Meteor Shower or Something Else?

Tonight, many residents of Zagreb and its surroundings were baffled by unusual light phenomena in the sky. Blue light streaks lasting about 15 minutes appeared in the clear sky without any sound. Although the cause has not been officially confirmed, it is believed that these unusual lights are connected to the Boötids meteor shower, which peaked that evening. The Boötids meteor shower originates from tiny debris left by comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke, a short-period comet that orbits close to the Sun every six years. This meteor shower can be highly active, sometimes producing up to a hundred meteors per hour, although the average is usually 1 to 2 meteors. The best time to observe is just after sunset, looking towards the west, and this year conditions were excellent as the moon did not interfere with visibility. This phenomenon attracted significant attention, with many people recording it, and some jokingly calling it the tears of Saint Lawrence. Regardless, such events remind us how the sky above us is still full of mysteries and spectacular shows. If you also saw these unusual blue streaks, share your impressions and videos — maybe together we can discover what exactly is happening in the sky!
