Fascism in 2024? Montenegro Seems to Allow a “Light Version” of Chetnik Ideology!
Did you know that in Montenegro, there are still politicians openly supporting the fascist Chetnik ideology? Yes, you read that right! Miloš Đuričković, international secretary of SDA and representative of the European Alliance, cannot believe that the Montenegrin government has yet to pass a law banning fascist, Nazi, and extreme nationalist organizations and their symbols.
Who are these “sympathizers”?
Andrija Mandić and Serbian Orthodox Church metropolitans Joanikije and Metodije have publicly glorified Chetniks Pavle Đurišić and Draža Mihailović, known collaborators and fascist ideologues. Mandić even claims there is no problem, stating everyone should respect their ancestors and that Montenegro should be a country of freedom of thought.
Why is the law urgent?
Đuričković warns that urgent adoption of a law is necessary to put all shades of fascism in the same basket and ban them. He clearly asks: will minority parties in power become collaborators of the Chetnik ideology?
What is happening in practice?
While the government hesitates, statements supporting Chetnik ideology continue, which Đuričković says is against the law and deserves contempt.
Mandić’s stance: “Freedom for all!”
On the other hand, Andrija Mandić says he does not oppose the statements of the metropolitans and that everyone has the right to honor their ancestors. He presents himself as a man of dialogue and reconciliation, but is this just a mask for supporting fascism?
What do you think?
Is Montenegro ready to face this dark part of its politics, or will it allow fascism and Chetnik ideology to gain space again? Is freedom of thought an excuse to glorify fascist ideologies?
Join the conversation, because this is not just a Montenegrin problem — it’s a warning for the whole region! Who’s next to say fascism is “just the past”?
Don’t stay silent, share your thoughts, because if we stay quiet, fascism will speak louder!
Summary: Montenegro stands at a crossroads. Miloš Đuričković demands urgent legislation to ban all forms of fascism and Chetnik ideology, condemning public support from figures like Andrija Mandić and Serbian Orthodox Church leaders. Mandić defends the right to honor ancestors, but critics see this as dangerous tolerance of fascism. The question remains: will Montenegro stand against or alongside fascism? Join the debate!
