Imagine this – while you’re enjoying your summer vacation or battling scorching heat, hospitals are facing a disaster! The Serbian Blood Transfusion Institute is sounding the alarm because blood supplies have dropped below critical levels. Yes, you read that right – blood reserves are now enough for only one and a half days of treatment!
Summer holidays and high temperatures are the perfect recipe for chaos in blood transfusion. Last week, fewer blood units were collected than the weekly need, meaning daily patient treatments are at risk. All blood groups are on thin ice, except for AB, which is the only exception.
Why does this matter? Because blood isn’t just red liquid – it’s life! Without enough blood, emergency cases, surgeries, and therapies can come to a halt. The Institute is calling on all healthy citizens aged 18 to 65 to step up and donate blood immediately. The donation center is open from 7 AM to 7 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 3 PM on Saturdays, with mobile teams operating across the country.
Imagine you or someone you love is in the hospital and there’s no blood for transfusion. Don’t let that happen! Check out www.itks.rs for the schedule of mobile teams and join this life-saving movement.
And hey, next time you complain about the heat or your vacation, remember someone might be fighting for their life in a hospital with no blood supplies. If you have 5 minutes and a good pulse, why not donate? Drop a comment if you’ve donated or plan to – let’s see who the real summer hero is!
