Urgent Upgrade of Inspection Services: Will Our Inspectors Save Citizens’ Health and Safety?

Inspection services in Serbia are often seen as oppressive, but Snežana Paunović, the responsible official, has made it clear that it’s high time to upgrade the quality of their work and the structure of inspectors. Paunović emphasized that inspectors oversee key aspects like food, water, and air — everything vital for citizens’ health and safety. However, the problem lies in the worrying age structure of inspectors, which demands urgent attention. “We must address the status of inspectors because they do a tough and important job,” Paunović said.

She stressed that inspection services should not be merely repressive but should play a preventive role in protecting citizens. The quality of inspectors’ work must improve, and their structure modernized.

This statement comes at a time when the public often views inspections as repressive bodies rather than protectors of health and safety. Paunović made it clear that this perception needs to change and that inspectors’ work must be enhanced so that Serbian citizens can feel safer in their daily lives.

So, while many complain about inspections, the real problem seems to be that inspectors are overworked, aging, and under-supported. Will the government finally recognize how important they are and give them the resources and status they deserve? Or will we continue to watch problems pile up while inspectors struggle with an outdated system?

If you have your own take on how inspections work or don’t work, drop a comment — maybe your story will spark the real change!
