Looks like the US still thinks the Western Balkans is a hotbed of national security threats! Another year of emergency state extended from June 26, because, of course, corruption, extremist violence, and attempts to undermine sovereignty in the region are an “exceptional threat”! Signed by Donald Trump on May 20, continuing a tradition since George W. Bush in 2001. Is the Balkans really that chaotic or is this just another political stunt? With mentions of North Macedonia, the Dayton Agreement, and UN resolutions, the situation is serious — but is this drastic measure really necessary?
