Belgrade exploded into chaos last night! What was supposed to be a peaceful student protest on Vidovdan turned into a full-blown street war between protesters and police. The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade ordered the detention of 29 individuals suspected of violent behavior. Police were pelted with bottles, stones, wooden sticks, and some protesters even wore masks to hide their identities! Among those arrested were people kicking police officers, dragging them by the legs, throwing stones and firecrackers, and one even hit a policeman with a bottle on the head. Six police officers were injured, and the riots lasted for hours across central Belgrade, especially on King Alexander Boulevard and near Pionirski Park. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić had earlier warned about the possibility of violence, while students broadcasted a “green light” to continue the protests. Police Director Dragan Vasiljević confirmed the arrests and injuries, and Minister Dačić strongly condemned the attacks on police, promising all attackers will be prosecuted. This Vidovdan was anything but peaceful — Belgrade became a battlefield that will echo in public discourse for a long time. Think this was just another protest? Think again — this was a full-on drama on the capital’s streets! So, what do you think about these clashes? Did the police go too far, or are the protesters to blame? Drop a comment and let the people’s voice be heard!
