Vidovdan is not just another date on the calendar. It’s the day when the Serbian people come together, remember, and renew their strength and unity. Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski, a prominent politician, made it clear from Ćuprija that Vidovdan is the day of our truth, the day we must be united and strong – before our ancestors and descendants.
History and Meaning of Vidovdan
Vidovdan symbolizes freedom, statehood, and struggle. It’s the day we remember our ancestors, like Prince Lazar, who left an indelible mark on Serbian history. Đurđević Stamenkovski emphasizes that Serbs have always chosen freedom over slavery, and that the greatest blows to our people have always come from outside, never from within.
Unity or Division – The Choice is Clear
“We have no other homeland, we don’t want a backup. We have only this one, unique, indivisible country that we love and defend,” says Đurđević Stamenkovski. She warns against internal divisions that only strengthen enemies and dig trenches among us. Vidovdan is the day to come together, not to fall apart.
Kosovo and Metohija – The Heart of Serbian Struggle
The Serbian fight for Kosovo and Metohija, and all the lands where Serbs have lived for centuries, remains firm and determined. Prizren, Gračanica, Dečani – these are sacred places we protect and that form part of our identity. “As Vidovdan is, so shall it be forever,” says Đurđević Stamenkovski, calling for gratitude to ancestors and responsibility to descendants.
