Belgrade Protests Turn Into Chaos: Stones, Bottles, and Police Batons Flying!

Last night, Belgrade was the scene of utter chaos! After protests in the city center, a whopping 29 people were detained for violent behavior. Yes, you read that right – 29! All because of wild attacks involving throwing stones, bottles, and even wooden sticks at the police.

Who attacked the police?

We have names, ages ranging from 21 to 60! Igor J. (33) hit a policeman with a bottle on the head, while Nenad N. (60) was a victim of the attack. Živorad J. (37) and Zoran L. (48) allegedly kicked and threw explosive devices at the police. Miloš A. (26) insulted and physically confronted officers, and Jovan S. (21) even kicked gendarmes and dragged one by the leg!

Where did the violence happen?

The streets of Belgrade, especially Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra and Masarikova Street, turned into a battlefield. Near the Markiz hotel, Goran V. (39) threw stones at police, and Aleksandar M. (25) used wooden sticks. Atanasija K. (22) and Ivan S. (39) threw bottles and stones at police cordons.

Police did not stand still

Officers defended themselves with shields but were also targeted. Nikola M. (28) hit shields with a wooden stick, while others insulted and threatened police. The climax came around 11 PM when firecrackers, explosive devices, and stones were thrown at police lines.

What does the prosecution say?

The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade acted immediately and ordered 48-hour detention for 29 suspects. Additionally, four people were detained for attacking police before the rally and attempting to attack students in Pionirski Park.

Is this the start of a new wave of violence?

Analysts warn that extremists are ready to cause serious chaos in downtown Belgrade. Violence continues, and authorities and police are at their limits. Will the situation calm down, or will we see even bloodier scenes?
