High Judicial Council: Unacceptable Pressures and Blockades Threaten Court Independence

Courts on the Brink: High Judicial Council Says ENOUGH to Pressures and Blockades!

Courts in Serbia are under siege—not from criminals, but from pressures, insults, and blockades threatening their independence! The High Judicial Council (HJC) has made it crystal clear today—enough is enough! Judges are targets of threats and insults, while blockades of court buildings and demands for courts to rule a certain way are jeopardizing the justice system and citizens’ rights.

Who’s to Blame for the Chaos?

It all started after the tragic collapse of a canopy at the Novi Sad railway station on November 1 last year, which claimed 16 lives. Since then, judges have been under relentless attacks and pressure. The HJC condemns any attempt to undermine judicial independence because it directly threatens citizens’ right to fair trials and the rule of law.

What Does the High Judicial Council Say?

The HJC has explicitly banned all inappropriate statements, insults, and threats directed at judges. Blockades of courts and demands for rulings to suit protesters are unacceptable and harmful to the legal system. Judges must be protected to perform their duties without fear.

A Call for Responsibility and Respect

The HJC urges public officials and media to act with dignity and not to incite hatred or distrust against judges. Citizens are also called upon to be patient and trust the courts, as pre-trial detention is not a punishment but a measure used only in exceptional cases, according to the law.

Judges, Beware!

Judges are reminded to be aware of their responsibility and to refrain from statements that could jeopardize their independence and dignity. Their job is to make lawful, conscientious, and independent decisions—not to engage in political games or public controversies.

The Law is Clear

Judges cannot be members of political parties, and any inappropriate influence on their decisions is forbidden. Their tenure lasts until the mandatory retirement age, and a system of accountability is in place to ensure justice and legality.

Conclusion

The judiciary in Serbia is under attack, but the High Judicial Council stands firm. Unacceptable pressures and blockades must end because they threaten not only judges but the rights of all citizens. If you think justice is blind, maybe it’s time to check if it’s also deaf to these pressures.

So, what do you think about the pressures on judges? Is justice really at risk, or is this just another political game? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s on which side!
