Just when you think justice in Serbia works, Vladimir Gajic, lawyer and president of the People’s Party, drops a bombshell! He claims that the Chief Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac removed a crucial report from the investigation into the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad railway station. Yes, you read that right! The report, which confirms that the reconstruction works were completed on July 5, 2023, and that the canopy allowed passenger flow, simply vanished from the investigation. Gajic doesn’t hold back: “Dolovac isn’t interested in the truth, only in deciding who will be held accountable, regardless of guilt.” To make matters worse, the president of the Infrastructure Assembly of Serbian Railways, Nebojša Bojović, wasn’t even called for questioning! What does justice look like when Dolovac is in charge? Like justice is for sale and the investigation is just a show for the public.
It all started when the Infrastructure Assembly of Serbian Railways adopted a report on July 26 last year, clearly stating that the second phase of the reconstruction of the Novi Sad railway station was completed on July 5, 2023. The works were carried out by a consortium of Chinese railways, and the new station vestibule with galleries, ticket counters, and waiting rooms was opened to passengers. But instead of using this report to guide the investigation, Dolovac and her Novi Sad prosecutors removed it, turning the investigation into an international commercial contract where it doesn’t matter who is guilty, only who will be the scapegoat.
Gajic warns this is just the tip of the iceberg in Serbia’s justice system. Is it possible that such things happen while we watch from the sidelines? Is justice in Serbia just a game of power and interests? If you have thoughts or have seen similar cases, drop a comment and share your experience. Maybe together we can expose this judicial farce!
