Vranje in Shock: 12.5-Year-Old Boy on Electric Scooter Runs Into Truck and Loses Leg!
Is this yet another tragedy we could have prevented? At a crossroads in Vranje, where a STOP sign clearly demands a halt, a boy on an electric scooter didn’t stop. The result? A collision with a truck and amputation of his leg up to the hip!
What exactly happened?
On July 9th, in the morning hours, at the intersection of Kosovska, Blagoja Parović, and Ratko Pavlović streets, a 12.5-year-old boy was riding his electric scooter. Witnesses say the truck wasn’t speeding, but the boy ignored the STOP sign. He darted out from a side street right under the truck’s wheels.
Emergency response and hospital
The boy suffered severe life-threatening injuries. Emergency services responded quickly and transported him to the Clinical Center Niš. Unfortunately, the injuries were so severe that the surgical team had to amputate his leg up to the hip.
Witness reactions
People who happened to be at the scene describe the sight as horrifying. The truck was moving slowly, but the boy didn’t look left or right before entering the intersection. Everyone tried to help, but the tragedy couldn’t be avoided.
Investigation underway
Multiple institutions are involved in the investigation. The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Vranje has been notified and is monitoring the case. The Clinical Center Niš states that all necessary medical care was provided, but the boy’s condition remains critical.
