Vučić revealed today that he personally asked Chinese President Xi Jinping for help in solving the export problem of rare minerals caused by US tariffs. Representatives of Stelantis, a company that significantly contributes to Serbia’s economy, reported issues in procuring rare mineral raw materials necessary for production, as tariffs have increased prices and made normal procurement difficult. Vučić said he received a positive response from China, which considers the measures not targeted against friendly countries and that the competent authorities will resolve the issue.
This is a major blow to Serbia, as Stelantis is one of the key players in the domestic industry, and rare minerals are essential for producing modern technologies. US tariffs seem to have created chaos in the supply chain, and Serbia now has to rely on diplomatic ties with China to save the situation. Vučić emphasized that this is a matter of great international importance and expects the problem to be resolved soon.
At the same time, Vučić announced that Serbia will surpass 4.7 million passengers this year, signaling a slow economic recovery, but export tariff problems cast a shadow over these successes. It is clear that global trade tensions and tariffs directly impact the Serbian economy, and Vučić is ready to use all diplomatic channels to protect his country’s interests.
If you thought tariffs were a distant problem, think again — they can threaten jobs and production in Serbia. While politicians argue, ordinary people pay the price. If you have your own take on how Serbia should handle this issue, drop a comment — maybe your idea will be Vučić’s next move!
