Vučić Won’t Welcome Expo as President While Belgrade Burns in Protests and Violence

Aleksandar Vučić has finally admitted what everyone already knew – he won’t be welcoming Expo 2027 as Serbia’s president! Yes, you read that right. The president stated that elections will be held before May 2027, and he will attend Expo only as a guest of the future president. The opposition immediately started criticizing him, but Vučić coolly responded that they “have no clue what they’re babbling about.”

But while Vučić steps down, Belgrade is burning! Students and citizens have taken to the streets in massive protests, and the police responded with brutal violence. The gendarmerie used tear gas and batons, dozens of demonstrators were arrested, and six police officers and two civilians were injured. Vučić had earlier warned of expected violence and declared that the state will win, while the opposition and students call this a fight against a “color revolution” and government terror.

Miloš Vučević, president of the SNS party, says the people are tired of violence and that “the color revolution is over.” Ana Brnabić, the Speaker of the Assembly, calls the demonstrators “terrorist blockaders” who want to overthrow Vučić and seek Kosovo’s independence. It sounds like a political thriller, but this is Serbia’s reality today.

Police director Dragan Vasiljević claims the police acted professionally and used minimal force, but videos and eyewitness accounts tell a different story – “they beat us, destroy us, shame on them!” Meanwhile, opposition figures and artists like Tihomir Stanić condemn the government for detaining Montenegrin director Danilo Marunović and other repressive actions.

All this is happening while Vučić announces pension increases and other economic measures, trying to maintain public support. But will it be enough to stop the wave of discontent and violence? One thing is clear – Serbia is on the brink of a major political and social storm.

If you think this is just another political drama, think again. This is a country where elections are announced before Expo, where students take to the streets and get beaten by police. Where artists are expelled, and the government clings to every scrap of power. What about you? Who do you think will come out on top? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, or just have a laugh – because Serbia has never been boring!
