Vučić Opens Miloš the Great Highway: What’s Behind the Glittering Opening?
Today, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić officially opened the E763 highway section, known as Miloš the Great, between Preljina and Požega. The ceremony started at 10 a.m., and Vučić toured the new section by bus with officials and journalists.
What Did Vučić Say? Vučić emphasized that this is one of the most important days for Serbia, the result of six years of hard work. “The toughest section we have ever built in Serbia,” he proudly stated. He added that more highways and express roads have been built now than in the previous 70 years combined.
However, he also took a sharp tone against those who tried to block the highway and disrupt the works, comparing them to 19th-century people who protested against the introduction of public lighting. Vučić condemned incidents of violence and blockades, stressing that people suffer from bullying and that it must stop.
Problems and Challenges Vučić particularly highlighted problems with tunnels, especially Munjino Brdo, and an incident in southern Serbia where some people blocked entrances to cafes. He also criticized opposition media and politicians who, as he said, “hate their country” and do not rejoice in its successes.
He announced the continuation of new sections construction, including the road from Duga Poljana to Ivanjica, and the search for creative financing methods.
What Do Citizens Say? Vučić praised workers and citizens who persevered despite blockades and incidents, calling them heroes. He also condemned those who threw trash and disturbed city cleaning workers, emphasizing that such people cannot defeat hardworking individuals.
Is Everything So Great? While Vučić celebrates success, many citizens and critics point out safety issues on the road and political tensions accompanying such projects. The question remains whether the new highway will truly bring the expected development and prosperity or remain just another political spectacle.
Conclusion The opening of the Miloš the Great highway is a major event for Serbia, but behind the glittering words and ceremonies lie serious challenges and divisions. While Vučić celebrates victory, the question remains how much citizens will truly benefit and how long peace will last in traffic and politics.
