Vučić Opens Serbia’s Toughest Highway Section Featuring Two Longest Tunnels!

Serbia has just unveiled a highway dream, and President Aleksandar Vučić couldn’t hide his pride as he inaugurated the toughest section of the E763 Miloš Veliki highway, between Preljina and Požega. Stretching 19.56 kilometers, this section is an engineering marvel, featuring the two longest road tunnels in Serbia – Laz and Munjino Brdo, each about 3 kilometers long.

The toughest highway section ever built in Serbia

Vučić emphasized that this is the toughest highway section ever constructed in Serbia, with massive geological and terrain challenges. “We have never built such a difficult section before,” the president said, adding that many years of hard work went into completing this project. The Laz and Munjino Brdo tunnels are equipped with state-of-the-art safety systems, including 24/7 monitoring, video surveillance, fire detection, and ventilation systems.

Free driving and safety first

Starting July 15, citizens will be able to use this highway section for free, which Vučić announced as a gift to the people. The speed limit in the tunnels is 80 km/h, and traffic police activity has been increased to enforce rules and enhance safety. Vučić stressed that the highway is completely safe and that all systems have been tested by the most qualified experts.

A massive infrastructure feat

This section includes 35 bridges totaling over 5 kilometers in length, four overpasses, three traffic interchanges, and numerous tunnels. The project cost hundreds of millions of euros, with the main contractor being the Chinese company China Communications Construction Company (CRBC). Vučić is proud that Serbia has surpassed Romania in highway kilometers and now boasts the most modern and safest roads in the region.

What’s next?

Vučić announced that negotiations will soon begin for new sections, including Duga Poljana, Arilje, and Ivanjica, which are even more demanding and expensive to build. There are also plans to extend the highway towards Užice and Zlakusa, further connecting western parts of Serbia.

Operations center and monitoring

The president visited the operations and management center from where traffic and safety on the new section will be monitored. The center is equipped with top technology and has a generator that can provide power for up to five hours in case of a power outage. In case of any incident, trained teams from traffic police, fire-rescue units, and emergency medical services will respond immediately.

Vučić on blockades and criticism

The president took the opportunity to criticize those who blocked the works and caused problems, calling them “scoundrels” and emphasizing that they cannot defeat the hardworking people building Serbia’s future. He also expressed pride in the workers and builders involved in the project.
