Vučić has shocked the nation! While students in Novi Sad bravely protested over a tragic accident at the railway station, four activists from the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) brutally attacked them with baseball bats. One female student suffered a dislocated jaw! And what did Vučić do? He pardoned the attackers! Yes, you read that right – the President of Serbia decided to free from criminal responsibility those who beat young people simply seeking justice.
The trial began in late April, with prosecutors demanding prison sentences of two to three years for the attackers. However, their detention was lifted in June, and now they have been fully acquitted. This decision sparked outrage among opposition parties and civic groups, who claim Vučić is sending a message that violence against students is not only allowed but encouraged.
The student protests started back in November after 16 people died in the collapse of a canopy at the railway station. Instead of siding with the victims, Vučić chose to protect his thugs. SNS members even planned to block the court to free their activists, and Vučić posted “Freedom to the heroes” on Instagram. This move has raised fears that the president wants to provoke civil war and maintain power through violence.
Is this the Serbia we want to live in? Where thugs get pardoned and students are denied justice? If you have something to say, jump into the conversation – maybe your voice can change things!
