Ah, Vidovdan has arrived, and with it the spectacle of the year – Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić handing out decorations! But are these heroes truly deserving, or is this just another show for the people? Let’s unpack this ceremony full of medals and melodrama.

Who are these lucky ones?

Vučić awarded orders to people from various fields – from law professors, through sports figures, to musicians and even a posthumously decorated colonel. Among them are Radovan Višković, Andrija Mandić, Professor Dr. Vladan Petrov, Professor Dr. Patrik Drid, publicist Dragoljub Kojičić, and violinist Jovan Kolundžija. Even Aleksandar Grbović, who passed away, was awarded posthumously, with his son Lazar receiving the order.

But what is Vučić really saying?

In his speech, Vučić dramatically asked: “What are you ready to do for your country? How much do you love it?” As if calling us all to some kind of national loyalty test. Of course, he emphasized that receiving an order carries great responsibility, but is this just rhetoric or a real message?

Political background and controversies

While Vučić hands out orders, Serbia faces protests, sanctions, and tensions. Some of the decorated are politically connected or hold positions in state institutions, casting a shadow over the whole ceremony. Are these orders truly recognition of merit, or just a way to consolidate power and show strength?

What do you think?

Are these people real heroes who earned their decorations, or is this just another political performance? Is Vučić using Vidovdan to boost his image and control the narrative? Share your thoughts, there’s plenty of material here for a real debate!

Vidovdan is a day full of symbolism and questions. And you, how ready are you to love and sacrifice for your country? Or is it all just a show for the masses? Comment, laugh, get angry – but don’t stay indifferent!
