Vuković and Soriljo: New Era or Old Tricks in Montenegro UN Partnership?

Another Round in the Endless Montenegro-UN Partnership Saga!

Is this just another protocol meeting or does it actually change the game? Novica Vuković, the man holding a third of the negotiation chapters in Montenegro’s EU accession process, met with the UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro, Diego Soriljo. The topic? Continuing the “strong partnership” and accelerating Montenegro’s development through the famous Montenegro SDG Acceleration Fund.

What is the Montenegro SDG Acceleration Fund? It’s supposedly the key mechanism to mobilize international and domestic resources. The goal? More dynamic reform implementation and accelerated economic development. But is this just another empty phrase or something that will really change Montenegro?

Soriljo reminded that 19 UN agencies operate in Montenegro, providing “open support” in the final phase of the integration process. Expert support will focus on better utilization of funds from green climate funds. Sounds great, but how successful has this been so far?

Vuković stated that the Ministry of Finance remains committed to strengthening partnerships with international organizations, with a strong focus on economic reforms, inclusive growth, and sustainable development. Of course, all this while a new UN Resident Coordinator is expected to take office in August.

But wait, there’s more! Vuković thanked the outgoing coordinator for their “dedicated work” and expressed hope that the partnership will continue as it has for many years — successfully and constructively. Is this just diplomatic talk or something that will bring real change?

Why should we care? Because Montenegro is at a stage where every bit of help counts. The EU accession process is tough, and economic reforms are necessary. However, it often seems like there’s a lot of talk and little action. Will this new wave of cooperation with the UN bring a real revolution, or will we see the same stories with no concrete results?

Conclusion: The meeting between Vuković and Soriljo is yet another attempt to show progress. The Montenegro SDG Acceleration Fund sounds like a great idea, but the question remains — how much money and resources will actually be mobilized, and how will this impact the lives of ordinary citizens?

If you have your own take on these “partnerships” and “reforms,” drop a comment below. Is this just another diplomatic show or a real chance for Montenegro? Don’t be shy, let’s stir the pot in the comments — who knows, maybe that’s where real change begins!
