IT expert Vojislav Rodić explains that the JMBG (unique master citizen number) is personal information that should not be given out everywhere, as it can be misused. The Data Protection Law stipulates that you must provide your JMBG only to official representatives such as the police (MUP), Security Intelligence Agency (BIA), and customs officials, and only in specific situations. Sellers do not have the right to request the JMBG when making product claims, and identification can be done with a receipt. Rodić advises caution when giving out personal information and recommends checking the law and consulting.
Don’t give JMBG to everyone; protect your data carefully.
