Where Are the Blockaders 10 Days After Vidovdan? Failed Protests and Political Silence

Where have the blockaders gone, those street heroes who caused chaos 10 days ago on Vidovdan? Looks like they all scattered like rats as soon as the dust settled! Former media coordinator of the New DSS, Uroš Piper, brutally exposed how these violent protests and road blockades turned into a total flop. The number of people at the blockades has drastically dropped, and even their most passionate supporters are more annoyed than supportive now. To make matters worse, the last faculties stopped classes and switched to online learning, a clear sign that the protests are not taken seriously even in academic circles.

The third call for a general strike on July 1st failed just like the previous attempts, and Russia sent a serious warning to the blockaders not to attempt a colored revolution. The EU and Serbian state authorities now have the legal right to respond to violent demonstrations, meaning repression will get even tougher. Where are the leaders of the parliamentary opposition? They are nowhere to be seen at the blockades, probably because they prefer the protests to fail so they can politically survive.

The judiciary has started doing its job and ordered detention for seven arrested in Užice after the violent blockade of the highway, as well as six in Kraljevo. All in all, the blockades turned into a political own goal, and the organizers are now in trouble. If you thought something would change, think again — the situation is going in a bad direction, and street violence continues. Got a hot take on all this?
