Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader of the Shia Ismailis, passed away in Lisbon at the age of 88. As the 49th Imam, he led a community of about 15 million followers and oversaw a philanthropic and business empire. His successor will be announced after the reading of the will. He was born as Prince Karim al-Hussaini in Geneva in 1936 and inherited the title in 1957. He was known for his wealth, philanthropy, and passion for horse racing. He founded the Aga Khan Development Network, which operates in over 30 countries.
