Did you know that owning a dog is not just about walks and feeding? Professional dog trainer Sam reveals the dark side of dog ownership that most owners ignore! Dogs are not toys you can leave alone all day. They are emotional beings that need your attention, routine, and love — not just occasionally!
Sam warns that dogs who don’t get enough time with their owners suffer from serious emotional problems, including separation anxiety. Imagine waiting all day for just one minute of attention — that’s mentally exhausting for a dog! Short bursts of play or cuddles are not enough.
Ideally, an owner should spend at least a full week fully dedicated to bonding when a dog arrives in a new home, and throughout the dog’s life, at least 2 to 3 hours of quality time daily is needed. This includes walks, play, training, and socialization with other dogs.
But that’s not all! Dogs also require daily care: grooming fur, nails, ears, eyes, regular walks of at least 1 km, veterinary care, and a clean home. Sam emphasizes that regular training with a professional is essential — at least three short lessons per week throughout the dog’s life.
If you don’t have the time and willingness to devote to your dog, it’s better not to get one! A dog is not a thing but a family member who deserves love and responsibility.
Sounds like too much? Maybe it’s time to ask yourself if you’re really ready for a dog or just want a pet for Instagram photos.
What about you? How much time do you really spend with your dog? Do you think it’s enough to just feed and occasionally walk them? Share your experience, maybe you know how to fight anxiety in dogs or have a hilarious story about your four-legged friend!
