Wool in Montenegro is waste, but valuable in the West.

In Montenegro, wool is treated as waste and an environmental problem, whereas in the West, it is a valuable raw material. After the shutdown of the textile industry, wool is often burned or disposed of in nature, contributing to the proliferation of rodents and decomposing slowly. The President of the Montenegro Wool Institute, Jelena Đukanović, emphasizes that the state should support the purchase of wool. The Institute focuses on promoting cultural heritage and education, without commercial production. In Serbia, the situation is similar; wool is difficult to sell and is often discarded.
